Jerusalem Lutheran Church and School was founded more than one hundred years ago for a very specific and singular reason: to teach about Jesus. While many things have changed at Jerusalem since 1902, our reason for existing has not. We still proclaim exactly the same truths about Jesus today that our founding fathers and mothers proclaimed a century ago.

What's even more amazing is that the things we teach about Jesus today haven't changed in the last two thousand years! That's simply shocking to people who don't know about Jesus. But for us who know him - for us who know what he has done - the fact that the Church's teachings about Jesus wouldn't change for two millenia isn't one bit surprising. "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever" (Hebrews 13:8).

Now, we're not naive. We realize that people suggest that we're a bit old and out-of-touch for proclaiming centuries-old teachings. Some even tell us plainly that we ought to stop believing "myths" about a man who, they'll grant, may have lived once upon a time. But, they'll say, he certainly didn't do all the miraculous things that the Bible tells us he did. The staff and members of Jerusalem understand that teaching about Jesus in this world isn't considered "hip and cool." (And, trust us, we also know that people no longer talk about things being "hip and cool"!)

But you know what? We can't help what people think when we teach about Jesus. He hasn't asked his followers to convince other people about the truths of his Holy Scriptures. He's simply asked us to proclaim them. Jesus wants Christians to do today what Christians have always done: he wants us to teach about him, faithfully and without apology.

This is what we do at Jerusalem Lutheran Church and School. Our established mission is simple: "Serving all people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ on the basis of Holy Scripture." Simply put, we teach about Jesus.

But don't misunderstand. We don't teach about Jesus to stay busy. We truly believe that teaching about Jesus is a worthwhile endeavor because in Jesus alone we find real solutions to life's biggest problems. And the solutions Jesus gives us to these problems aren't band-aid approaches. His solutions fix the problems once and for all, and not just for us but for everyone.

Do you really know about Jesus? Have you really come to appreciate the desperate and deep-seated problems we all face as human beings? Have you really had the opportunity to learn about the only amazing answer to those problems?
