Duane comes to us from Jacksonville, Florida. He graduated from Orange Park High School in 1996 and the University of North Florida in 2001 with a degree in Secondary Education, specializing in Social Studies. After graduation, he accepted a teaching position at Ridgeview High School from 2002-2005 as the primary Economics teacher at the school. He also coached Varsity Golf and Baseball during his tenure. In the summer of 2005, he and his family moved to Morton Grove.

Upon his arrival, Duane received the Call to teach Grades 3-5 at Jerusalem, as well as to serve as the school's Athletic Director and Technology Coordinator. He later gained his synodical certification through Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota. In 2010 he began to teach Grades 6-8. In 2013 he began serving as principal. Jerusalem has now been blessed to move to two grades in a classroom rather than three, so in 2016, Duane began teaching only grades 7 and 8.

In January of 2014, Duane began a Master's program at Martin Luther College, specializing in Educational Leadership. Duane finished his degree in December of 2015 and participated in the graduation ceremonies in New Ulm in May of 2016. He now also serves as the Lake Lutheran Teachers' Conference Chairman and assists the WELS and WELSSA (the synod's accrediting body) as a member of accreditation site visit teams.

Duane's wife, Rebecca, is a nurse at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. They have two children, Sarah and Nathan. The family feels truly blessed to be members of the Jerusalem family.
