Julie Epple was born in the small farming community of Graceville in the western bump of Minnesota . She grew up on a farm southeast of town and attended the public grade and high schools in Graceville. Upon high school graduation, Julie enrolled at Dr. Martin Luther College, New Ulm, Minnesota, our Synod’s teacher-training college at the time. After earning her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education, she married Mr. Lenny Epple, who also attended DMLC, and moved to Kewaunee, Wisconsin where he began his teaching ministry.
Julie taught at Kewaunee Sunshine Nursery School for one year before beginning their family. Kari and Ethan, their first two children, were born in Kewaunee. Lenny's second call led the family to Peace Lutheran School in Otsego, Michigan . Mateja and Renata, two more daughters, were added to their family during their time in Michigan. Julie became preschool teacher's aide during their final year in Michigan. Lenny's next Call brought the Epples to St Matthew Lutheran School in Niles, Illlinois. Julie was a substitute teacher when necessary at all three schools.
After three years in Niles, the Lord led Lenny and Julie to teach English as a Second Language to high school and college students in Dawuko, for 10 months. It was a wonderful learning and mission experience for the whole family. Upon their return to the in 2004, Lenny accepted a Call to St Matthew Lutheran Church in Niles, this time with a new ministry position as staff minister. At the same time Julie began teaching Kindergarten at Jerusalem Lutheran School.
