CHURCH LEADERSHIP

Pastor David Ernest began his ministry after training at Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota, and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, Wisconsin, where he graduated in 2003. He has served congregations in Garden Grove, California; Tinley Park, Illinois; and Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, and is now back in Illinois—where he proudly cheers for the Bears.
Pastor Ernest is married to Lori, they've been married since 1999 and have 4 wonderful kids (and a daughter-in-law) - ranging in age from 24 to 15. Pastor enjoys woodworking and photography as hobbies. You may see him out on the soccer pitch as a high school referee in the area. You can probably get him to talk about just about anything to do with sports or living in different states in the United States.

One of Pastor's favorite verses from the Bible is Psalm 46:10: Be still and know that I am God.
Serving Together in Good Order
A congregational structure that begins with the Word of God reflects the foundation of the church. God’s Word shapes our faith, guides our decisions, and directs all that we do. From this foundation, the congregation is united as one body in belief, purpose, and mission.
From the congregation flow the Board of Elders and the Board of Trustees, each serving distinct yet complementary roles. The Elders focus on spiritual care and ministry, while the Trustees steward property and finances. Together, these boards serve the congregation, ensuring that both spiritual and practical needs are met in a way that honors God and supports the church’s mission.

The Constitution and Bylaws of Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church guide the life and work of our congregation. Originally adopted in 1902, they reflect our commitment to conducting all ministry in harmony with Holy Scripture and our Lutheran confession. These governing documents outline our beliefs, structure, and responsibilities as a congregation, helping ensure good order and faithful stewardship. The most recent revision was adopted in 2023.
Servant Leadership
Our ministry is supported by faithful leaders who serve with care and responsibility. The Board of Trustees and the Board of Elders work together to steward the congregation’s resources and to nurture the spiritual life of our church, ensuring that both our mission and our members are faithfully cared for.
The Jerusalem Board of Trustees is entrusted with the care and stewardship of the congregation’s property and finances, ensuring that our resources are managed wisely and responsibly. This board is led by dedicated officers who serve in key roles, including President, Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, and two Property Chairmen, all working together to support the mission and ministry of the congregation.
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
BOARD OF ELDERS
The Jerusalem Board of Elders plays a vital role in nurturing the spiritual life of our congregation and guiding the work of our three ministry areas. These ministries include Congregational Life, School Ministry, and Care for Called Workers. At the heart of it all, the Chairman of the Congregation leads the way in caring for our members, helping ensure everyone feels supported, connected, and spiritually strengthened.
