Jerusalem Expansion Committee Update - The New Jerusalem
“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another-all the more as you see the day approaching” (Hebrews 10:25). Jerusalem congregation had the opportunity and privilege to participate in several events last Sunday, July 27th. Although it was a very steamy day, many people came to worship, attend the congregational meeting, and enjoy fellowship at the picnic. What a blessing that we have the opportunity to meet together, grow in the Word, and encourage one another in our common faith! The congregational meeting covered many different topics including a motion from the council to begin fundraising activities for the New Jerusalem Expansion Concept with the goal of achieving a goal of $1M by May, 2026.
Before there was a vote on this motion, there was much discussion. One of the points brought up was the need to submit an application for a loan as soon as possible. It was stated that congregation members would be more willing to give to the project if they knew that the loan had been preapproved. An amendment was added to the motion (to begin fundraising) to submit a loan application and report back to the congregation with the status of the application and the financial model that will be used.
In addition to that amendment, another amendment was proposed to formulate a comprehensive policy governing the use of the money collected if the building project was cancelled. This policy would give donors the confidence and knowledge that their money will be used for the designated purpose.
So, with those two amendments, the motion was passed to begin fundraising activities for the Jerusalem Expansion Concept with the goal of raising $1M by May while simultaneously applying for a loan and creating a comprehensive, good faith policy for the money collected.
The Expansion Committee has much to work on these next few weeks. Knowing that God is with us turns a daunting task into a blessed challenge. The Committee is currently working on the proposal approved by the congregation and will be communicating to the congregation the progress on those items. Thank you to all who attended and provided valuable input which will help guide and direct the course of this project. What a blessing to worship together, to meet together, and to help one another as we work on “serving a diverse community with the unique message of Christ’s love.”
In the upcoming weeks, the Expansion Committee will be sharing ways that all members can contribute to this worthwhile project. Special envelopes are being created for people to designate an offering towards this project and will be located at the Jerusalem Expansion display table. In the meantime, pray and stay tuned for more information as we work together to grow God’s kingdom!
